Comments:

Strongly cell associated in vitro and in vivo except for feather follicle epithelium of infected chickens.

Stable for at least 30 years in viable cells frozen at -196°C.

Antigens detectable by immunodiffusion and immunofluorescence.xa0 Antigenically related to herpesvirus of turkeys (HVT), but distinct from infectious laryngotracheitis and duck enteritis virus.

Proportion of viral DNA composed of guanine and cytosine is 56-57%.
Effect on Host:
CPE, cell rounding and enlargement with some syncytia
Recommended Host:
Duck embryo cells (ATCC® CCL-141™)
Growth Conditions: Temperature: 37°C
Recommendations for Infection: For best results, infection should be performed by adding infected cells to freshly dissociated cells and planting simultaneously.
Incubation: 6-14 days at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, until CPE is progressed through 80% of the monolayer.
