The peak was well-isolated from hamster background; little debris. According to fluorescence in situ hybridization using genomic hamster DNA with sorted chromosomes, there is 15% hamster DNA.
About 84% of the library is human (and 16% hamster) by plaque hybridization.
Of 52 isolates giving definitive results, 5 contained hamster sequences. One hybridized to hamster (2 fragments) and human (same size as insert) DNA.
Of 76 inserts recloned into pUC13: 8-no identifiable insert; 4-very small inserts; 38-human repeats; 3-identical to others; 2--lost; 5-hamster; 7-no hybridization; 9-human (2 multiple copy, 4/7 single copy detect RFLP, 1 on chromosome 4.
