The insert extends from an EcoRI site to the HindIII site (about 1.5 to 11.5 kb). It includes 3 copies of a 10 bp sequence (-69, -29, +1) found in other ribosomal protein genes.
The coding sequence starts in exon 2. Introns 3 and 4 contain Alu-homologous repeats. The 3 flanking sequence contains 10 bp complementary to U1 RNA.
