This feline T-cell line is susceptible to infection by feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) U.S. Pat. 5,846,825. The FeT-1C cell line (ATCC CRL-11968) is IL-2 dependent, whereas the FeT-J cell line (TS212160) is IL-2 independent.

Complete Growth Medium: RPMI 1640 medium with 2 mM L-glutamine adjusted to contain 1.5 g/L sodium bicarbonate, 4.5 g/L glucose, 10 mM HEPES, and 1.0 mM sodium pyruvate and supplemented with 0.05 mM 2-mercaptoethanol and 10% heat-inactivated fetal bovine serum
Subculturing:
Cultures can be maintained by addition of fresh medium or replacement of medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension in fresh medium at 5 x 105 viable cells/mL. Maintain cultures at cell concentrations between 5 X 105 and 2 X 106 viable cells/mL.
Medium Renewal: Every 3 to 4 days
