Origin : established from the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma of a female Syrian (Golden) hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) induced by treatment with BHP (chemical carcinogen); sister cell line of HPD-2NR (DSM ACC 293); described in the literature to be homotransplantable (i.e. in other syngeneic hamsters) and to carry a mutation in exon 1 of the c-Ki-ras oncogene

Morphology: adherent epithelial cells growing mostly in monolayers (about 2-5% very large cells), but also with formation of a three-dimensional grid-like structure with some round, only loosly bound cells
Medium : 80-90% RPMI 1640 + 10-20% h.i. FBS
Subculture : split confluent culture before reaching confluence 1:2 to 1:4 every 3-6 days using trypsin/EDTA; seed out at about 2 x 106 cells/80 cm2; cells have a high metabolic activity acidifying the culture medium; exchange spent medium every 2 days
Incubation : at 37 °C with 5% CO2
Doubling time : ca. 60-70 hours
Harvest : cell harvest of about 6-7 x 106 cells/80 cm2
Storage : frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO
Mycoplasma : negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization assays
Fingerprint : identical DNA profile with HPD-1NR multilocus probe (gtg)5
